Mixed Media On Canvas | 48" x 48" | $12,500
Inspired by light in the water as she walked along the beach, Megan created this mixed media abstract painting on canvas. She combined metallic acrylic paints with gold leaf, crystals, and resin to elicit the feeling of the sparkles.
Blurring the boundary between realism and abstract, this painting evokes the vastness of our world and beyond. Megan particularly responds to the light bouncing through and off of the water whenever she experiences it. Whether in a river, on a lake, or in the sea, that feeling of peace, of beauty, and of the ethereal brought to Earth inspires her to try to capture it and share it with others.
Megan has found that gazing on distant horizons actually produces endorphins; she thinks that's why people love the beach or the mountains, or any vista that creates the illusion of space and air and the sense that there is something larger than the human looking at the view. In all the years of painting murals in people's homes and businesses, Megan has found that punching a hole in a wall with a distant view, letting the outside in, is often what people crave. That, and the profound peace that comes from perspective, both from above, and from great distance.
Megan translates this idea into her contemporary abstract paintings; whether the viewer knows what the original inspiration was for a piece or not, he or she responds to the feeling in the artwork, and often may not even know why, they just like it. That doesn't matter to Megan, she's just glad they respond to her vision of the beauty around us.
