Mixed Media On Canvas | 48" x 66" | $15,000
Inspired by walking through the wetlands, Megan created this mixed media abstract painting. She incorporated metallic acrylic paint, texture media, gold leaf, and resin to create the feeling of depth and reflection.
Megan's contemporary abstract paintings explore light's interplay with the world around us and both elicit the feeling of a real place and an imaginary space, while conjuring up the sense of peace and tranquility she feels when surrounded by nature.
One of the things Megan loves most about the wetlands are the plants and trees growing through the water. Layering this image over top of the reflection of the landscape of the river bank and the sky beyond that creates a scene with depth and texture and interest. Megan works to convey her experience of the beauty around her in this sculptural abstract painting like all the others in this series of contemporary artworks.
As you pass by the painting, the colors and values of metallic paints shift while you move and light reflects off them and through the resin. The golden leaves grow through the surface of the water, expanding past the picture plane into the viewers' space, creating the feeling of sculpture and even creating a bit of a trompe l'oeil illusion. The leaves are adorned with actual gold leaf, creating the flash of light off the edges when the light hits them, as if they are calling your attention one at a time. Combined with the shadows created by those leaves, the surface of the water feels even more alive. Megan loves to blur the boundary between 2D and 3D representation with this visual language she has created in this series of artworks.
