Mixed Media On Wood Panel | 48" x 48" | $12,500
Textures, colors, and patterns observed in a hike through Sequoia National Park inspired this abstract painting. Megan was struck by how the cycle of fire and renewal is critical to the survival of the ancient forest.
Megan created this abstract painting with mixed media using metallic plaster and paint, gold leaf, copper leaf, acrylic paints and bas relief texture. The matte finish of the dark texture conjures up the charred edges of the inside of a giant sequoia tree who has not only survived fire, but needs fire to take out the smaller trees around it in order for it and its connected trees to survive. The brightly shining copper and gold leaf details glow like the fire in memory, shining as the light hits them from around the room.
Gallery wrapped around the edges, this deeply cradled abstract painting does not require framing. Megan’s sculptural paintings are either created on canvas or wooden panels like this one, depending on the size of the piece. The depth of this piece is about 3.5" with the bas relief built up on the surface of the painting.
It almost feels like a cut taken out of the Earth and turned into a painting. One of the things Megan likes the best about creating abstract paintings like this one, is that people don't need to know what it is. They look at it and see what they see; there's a feeling or a message present in a painting for whomever is viewing it, and it doesn't have to be the same for everyone.
