Acrylic mural on 10’ x 20′ canvas and complete 3D environment
Megan McKeithan created this 3D fantasy movie set inspired by James Cameron’s Avatar in 3D for The Next Cool Thing interior design event in Atlanta. As project manager, she collaborated with six other Atlanta companies to fabricate this enormous 3D installation exhibit. Nicknamed Avatlanta for the inspiration of Avatar taking over Atlanta, the exhibit includes a 10’x20’ mural painted on canvas and installed on a self-standing curved wooden wall and includes details like Atlanta landmarks, the King and Queen buildings poking up through the rainforest, oversized textural bronze branches, waterfalls, Ikrans, and even a helicopter like those found in the Avatar movie. It also includes Fred, a mobile 3D Avatar-inspired Ikran head, and multiple 3D pieces including hanging mountains, huge sculptural leaves, and glow-in-the-dark cypress knees.
This complete environment includes custom faux finishes on the branches, leaves, and flooring, as well as 3D fiber-optically lit seed pods, and even Avatar-inspired glow-in-the-dark creatures. The team created beautiful fantasy faux flowers for the exhibit as well as large fantasy floral arrangements and custom furnishings.
